Thirteen IALHI members are going to make their digital collections available in the framework of an ambitious new EU project: Heritage of the People's Europe (HOPE).
The HOPE project (2010-2013) brings together a partnership of thirteen European social history institutions with highly significant but scattered collections, comprising to date at least 3 million digital items (pictures, books, archival documents, sound, moving image et cetera). The project will make these items available through Europeana, the European digital library. The collections will also be searchable via the Social History Portal (http://www.socialhistoryportal.org).
HOPE falls under the aegis of IALHI, the network organization for social history archives, libraries and documentation centers, and is co-financed by the European Commission.
The HOPE partners are:
• Internationaal Instituut voor Sociale Geschiedenis (Netherlands)
• Amsab-Instituut voor Sociale Geschiedenis (Belgium)
• Confederazione Generale Italiana del Lavoro (Italy)
