The International Association of Labour History Institutions (IALHI)

The International Association of Labour History Institutions (IALHI) brings together archives, libraries, documentation centres, museums and research institutions specializing in the history and theory of the labour and social movements from all over the world. IALHI's main goal is to facilitate the exchange of expertise in order to preserve, and promote the access to, and the use of, their respective collections.


IALHI's 2018 Annual Conference will be held 12-15 September at the new premises of the Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli in Milan, Italy.

The theme of the conference: The Sources of ’68.

IALHI is looking for one Board member and for a new President, both of whom will be elected by the General Assembly in Milan, Italy, held in the context of the next IALHI Conference (September 12-15, 2018).

  1. Call for candidates to fill in 1 vacant place in the Board. The General Assembly and current Board would like to welcome a person from an institute that has the capacity to host a future IALHI conference. Additionally, IALHI members from Spanish speaking countries, Africa or Asia are especially encouraged to apply for this position. Board members serve for a 5-year mandate.
  2. Call for candidates to the presidency of IALHI. The president, who serves for 5 years with possibility of renewal, presides over the Board, represents the organization externally, ensures the organization and functioning of the General Assembly, and is responsible for the conservation of the archives of the Association. After the mandate period, he/she shall deposit the archival material of the Association from the period in the International Institute of Social History (IISH).

Board members and the President gather twice a year: during the IALHI conference in September, and in February. IALHI does not have the financial capacity to pay travel expenses for Board members or President, but it offers the possibility, for those who cannot attend Board meetings in person, to be present remotely via Skype.
